Chapter 9: You haven't experienced borrowed luck, so how do you know it's fake? ...

"So that's how it is... What a pity." Next to the library, Chen Moxin sighed with his hands behind his back after listening to this. His eyes were curved, but his tone didn't sound very regretful.

Chang Xile ignored him. She was still thinking about the cat that had just spoken, and felt that she had more important things to do.

"Doctor, I'm hearing auditory hallucinations, and I think this symptom is really serious. Not only did I see a weasel pretending to be a human, I also heard a cat talking! Is it related to my illness some time ago? I've been having very strange nightmares frequently lately." In the ENT clinic of a hospital, Chang Xile sat on a chair, trying to describe his condition.

The doctor in a white coat listened to her description with a serious expression. After checking her ears and finding nothing wrong, he murmured, "I've never heard of such a case..."

As she was speaking, the next woman waiting at the door, a woman with short curly hair, heard what Chang Xile said and suddenly poked her head in to ask, "Miss, you said you saw a weasel disguised as a human?"

"Yes." Chang Xile turned around and answered her.

"Oh, did it ask you if it looked like a human?" the aunt asked.

"How did you know?" Chang Xile originally thought that the aunt came to talk to her because she was impatient waiting for the appointment, but she didn't expect that she actually got to the point in just one sentence.

"My husband has had this happen before! He went to the mountains to pick mushrooms, but he didn't come back all night. I was so worried! I almost called the police." The aunt got excited when she heard this. She simply walked into the clinic and found a stool to sit down. "He came back early the next morning and told me that he had met a weasel and asked for a reward."

"Ask for a title?" This was the first time Chang Xile heard this statement.

"The cultivating weasel hit a bottleneck before reaching adulthood. To overcome this hurdle, it specifically seeks out lost people in the wild and asks them, 'Do I look like a human?' If you say yes, it borrows your luck and achieves success. If you say no, its cultivation is reverted to where it started, and all its efforts have been in vain."

"My old man met a silly weasel. It would have been fine if it asked, 'Do I look like a human?' But it actually thought it was going to ascend to heaven and asked, 'Do I look like a god?' You know, once you say that, the luck you borrow will become a bottomless pit. No one will be able to borrow it! My old man said no, so the weasel held a grudge against him. It followed us all the way to our house and caused trouble for a year. Even after we moved, the problem persisted until we called in a master."

Chang Xile was stunned by this strange story. Before she could ask more questions, she heard the doctor beside her tap the tip of his pen on the table and remind her, "Feudal superstition is not advisable."

Auntie was anxious: "How do you know it's feudal superstition if you haven't experienced it yourself?"

In fact, the doctor was also attracted by the story told by the aunt. He looked at the watch and just barely suppressed his curiosity. He coughed twice to cover up his embarrassment and said, "Okay, I'll see you after I finish examining her. The people behind me must be waiting anxiously."

"Okay." Upon hearing this, the aunt was no longer annoyed. She sat up straight and waited for the doctor to finish treating Chang Xile.

The doctor turned his attention back to Chang Xile. He coughed again and said cautiously, "There's nothing wrong with your ears physiologically. I personally suggest that in your case, would you consider seeing a psychiatrist?"

"Oh, how can you talk like that? Why does a little girl like her go to a psychiatric department at such a young age?" The aunt started yelling again after hearing this.

Chang Xile knew there was nothing wrong with her ears, and it wasn't a complication of the high fever from the food poisoning, so she didn't ask any further questions. The doctor simply gave her advice based on the symptoms, stating that hallucinations and frequent dreams could indeed be signs of a mental health issue.

As for whether to go to the doctor.

...Forget it.

"Xile, are you going to the hospital again? Are you feeling unwell?" Fang Xinai asked her while looking in the mirror.

"No, I just have a problem with my ears." Chang Xile thought for a moment, but decided not to tell Fang Xinai about the recent strange incident. Someone claiming to understand cats certainly sounded mentally disturbed. Chang Xile planned to verify it himself.

"Is there something wrong with your ears? Can a high fever affect your hearing? Can't you hear clearly?" Fang Xinai suddenly became nervous.

It wasn't that he couldn't hear clearly. In fact, he understood a bit too much. Chang Xile laughed to indicate that he was fine, then stood up and prepared to leave.

"Are you going out again?" Fang Xinai hadn't seen Chang Xile many times today, and she was going out again as soon as she came back.

"Let's go for a campus run!" Chang Xile stretched. To meet the campus run standard, one has to run 100 kilometers every semester. She had not run during the days she was in the hospital, and her progress had fallen behind.

"Then I want to go too!" Fang Xinai also stood up and turned to ask Ren Qing, "Sister Ren, are you going?"

Ren Qing, who had been following the anime, had changed her usual cold and aloof demeanor, crying and laughing from time to time. When she heard Fang Xinai calling her, she pulled herself away from the plot with difficulty, gave her a look, and asked in surprise, "You're not having dinner today?"

Fang Xinai's table was filled with a variety of snacks and desserts, but she rubbed her stomach and shook her head: "I don't know why I have no appetite today. I won't eat."

Ren Qing simply changed into her sportswear. As she put on her clothes, she confided in Chang Xile, "Before you came back, she was overeating badly."

"Oh, why are you saying this! I'm not fat anyway, so what's wrong with eating more? Let's go." Fang Xinai didn't like to hear this, and was about to go out by pushing the two of them on their backs.

However, when they opened the door, they met eyes with a tall girl.

The woman had long, straight black hair with bangs and a princess-cut hairstyle at the temples. She wore a black tube top and jeans. Her makeup was Gothic, with black lipstick and eyeliner, and her three-spotted eyes made her look a bit fierce. Ren Qing glanced down at the suitcase beside her before greeting her, "Hello, Yang Guisi."

"I forgot to tell you." Yang Guisi shook his phone. "The counselor asked us to report living away from home, but I don't meet the requirements, so I moved back."

Fang Xinai and Yang Guisi had been at odds since the start of the school year, so she stood aside and remained silent. Chang Xile felt a hand silently tightening on her arm and met Yang Guisi's gaze. He stared at them meaningfully, his directness almost impolite.

"Have you lost weight?" After a long silence, Yang Guisi suddenly asked Fang Xinai.

Fang Xinai finally smiled. She was very pleased to be praised for her thinness, and even her dislike for Yang Guisi was no longer so strong. She took the initiative to invite him, "We're planning to go for a run on campus. Do you want to join us?"

"No." Yang Guisi shook his head. "Let me go. I need to go in and pack my luggage."

"Okay then." Fang Xinai was just being polite, and then he dragged Chang Xile and Ren Qing downstairs.

When the three people slowly walked away, Yang Guisi turned around and looked at them again. She had a strange look on her face and murmured:

"…What the hell is this place?"
